A Mechanics Mate, also known as a Mechanical Assistant or Helper, is a support role within the mechanical trade responsible for assisting mechanical technicians or engineers in various tasks related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems and equipment. This role involves working under the guidance of experienced professionals to contribute to the safe and efficient operation of mechanical infrastructure.
– Assist mechanical technicians or engineers in installing mechanical systems, machinery, and components based on project specifications.
– Handle and pass tools, equipment, and materials to mechanical professionals as needed.
– Prepare materials for installation, including organising tools, ensuring the availability of necessary supplies, and assisting in the assembly of components.
– Assist in the layout and positioning of mechanical equipment.
– Assist in the assembly and disassembly of mechanical components and machinery.
– Support the proper alignment and connection of mechanical parts.
– Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while working with mechanical systems.
– Utilise personal protective equipment and follow established safety procedures.
– Maintain and organise mechanical tools, keeping them in good working condition.
– Report any damaged or malfunctioning tools to the supervising mechanical professional.
– Handle and transport materials, tools, and equipment to and from the work site.
– Organise and store materials in a systematic manner.
– Learn to interpret mechanical drawings and schematics under the guidance of experienced professionals.
– Collaborate with other mechanical mates, mechanical technicians or engineers to understand the layout and specifications for installations.
– Perform basic mechanical tasks, such as measuring, cutting, and shaping materials as directed.
– Assist in the installation and maintenance of mechanical systems.
– Maintain awareness of potential safety hazards and report any concerns to the supervising mechanical professional.
– Participate in safety briefings and training sessions as required.
– Mechanical Mates will assist in maintaining accurate records of mechanical installations, material usage, and any incidents or deviations from project plans.
– Complete relevant paperwork and documentation as required.
– Entry-level position; no prior professional experience required, but a willingness to learn and develop skills in the mechanical trade is essential.
