Electrical Estimator – Reading

Salary: £65000 – £80000

We Build Recruitment are recruiting for an Electrical Estimator on behalf of our client, a rapidly growing, privately-held specialist that provides a “one-stop-shop” for energy infrastructure. Role Overview

As an Electrical Estimator, you will play a critical role in the business, preparing first-principles cost models and technical tenders for high-voltage installation projects across the UK. You will work across a diverse project pipeline ranging from 400V up to 132kV (Experience up to 400kV desired but not essential), supporting our mission to deliver end-to-end infrastructure for the UK power sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • First-Principles Estimation: Develop robust, accurate cost models for materials, plant, labour, and civil works for HV projects (up to 132kV+), ensuring all bids are commercially viable and auditable.
  • Tender Management: Produce and manage high-quality tender submissions for ICP’s, DNO’s, Tier 1, Developers and National Grid projects, including substation installations and contestable connections.
  • Technical Analysis: Interpret complex electrical layout drawings, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and employer requirements to define project scope and technical risks.
  • Subcontractor & Supplier Liaison: Negotiate with specialist suppliers and evaluate subcontractor quotations for compliance with tender specifications.
  • Site Surveys: Conduct on-site assessments and route walks to identify delivery constraints, access issues, and project-specific risks.
  • Collaborative Bid Strategy: Work closely across the group to ensure an integrated “single delivery model” approach.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years in electrical estimating, with specific expertise in the HV sector (132kV and above desired).
  • Education: HNC/Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of NERS accreditation, National Grid standards, and HV construction methods (jointing, switchgear, and primary plant etc).
